In 2007-2008, NLSA assisted over 22,385 individuals. With currently only 28 attorneys and 5 paralegals programwide, these kinds of numbers would not be possible without help from the outside. In the four county area served by NLSA, there are 8,922 private attorneys.

Legal Professionals

Whether you are currently practicing, recently retired or just starting your career as a law student, NLSA needs your legal talents and experience to help it fulfill its mission. Opportunities for both pro bono and reduced fee referral program work are available for attorneys. Internships for law students, both during the school year and the summer, introduce students to the practice of poverty law through hands on experience.

In 2007-2008, 309 attorneys and 38 paralegals donated 6,265 hours and handled 1,679 pro bono cases. Volunteer attorneys also staffed 24 Family and Consumer Law Clinics held at NLSA's Pittsburgh office. Their participation helped NLSA to assist 529 clients in matters involving custody, divorce, support, bankruptcy and debt collection.
